Light Breakfast

The rumors are true, skipping breakfast is not a good idea. It can be small if you are not a breakfast person. One egg or a piece of fruit. It will kick start your metabolism and help keep you from making bad decisions later. Sadly, coffee is not food. Here are some tips for eating a lower calorie breakfast.

  • Use skim milk
  • Use a small glass for your juice and small bowl for your cereal
  • Have a ¼ cup of regular oatmeal with fresh fruit and cinnamon instead of a sweet roll
  • Use nonfat plain yogurt, add fresh fruit or cinnamon instead of buying flavored yogurt
  • Eat only half of a bagel or English muffin
  • Use a nonstick skillet and cooking spray in place of butter to prepare your eggs
  • Have egg whites instead of the whole egg
  • Use 2 tablespoons of fat-free cream cheese in place of regular cream cheese
  • Smash up fresh fruit to replace jam
  • Select lean ham, Canadian bacon, or turkey bacon
  • Fill your omelet with onions, peppers, spinach, and mushrooms instead of cheese and meat
  • Flavor your coffee with cinnamon and nutmeg instead of flavored syrup

Avoid breakfast bars and drinks. Sure they are convenient but they are loaded with sugar. For breakfast on the go grab a piece or fruit, hard boiled egg, or home-made smoothie.

Smoothie Example:

  • 3 egg whites
  • Cup frozen fruit
  • 1/4 cup skim milk
  • Dash of cinnamon
  • Blend and pour into your to-go-cup!
